This is a traditional recipe from my grandmother for Austrian Cinnamon Cookies. They have a quite intense flavour of cinnamon and are really easy to make.
To cut out the rectangle or rhombus shaped cookies, you need a pastry cutter with a "wavy" wheel.
Austrian Cinnamon Cookies Recipe
Traditional Granny Recipe for Austrian Cinnamon Cookies.
Zutaten
- 250 g white sugar {1 cup + 4 US tablespoons}
- 250 g all purpose flour {2 cups}
- 100 g butter {3.5 oz / 0.9 stick of butter / 7 US tablespoons}
- 1 tsp. cinnamon ground
- 1 tsp. cloves ground
- 1 egg
- ½ egg to spread on the cookies
- walnuts for decoration
Anleitung
- Knead flour, sugar, butter, egg, cinnamon and cloves to a dough and roll out thinly.
- Cut into squares with a pastry wheel.
- Spread with whisked egg and decorate with nuts.
- Put on a baking tray, covered with a baking sheet. Bake in the oven at 170°C (340°F) for 10 minutes. Exact temperature and duration depend on your oven.
